What I found there
What do you see when you visit an art museum? I spent several hours in one this week and was affected in ways I didn't think the exhibits in an art museum would affect me. To me many of the paintings were not cold works of art. They were life, captured and encapsulated in the brushstrokes of the artist's brush. Depictions of two young lovers just discovering their feelings. Mothers and their children radiating the unbreakable bond between them. Soldier, wounded and battle weary, being embraced on his return home by loving wife and mother. A roman nude with titian hair and alabaster skin, a young mother about to bathe her chubby baby in a bowl. Feminine perfection of the human body. The sculpture of a mortally wounded Native American warrior. Then there was a whole wall covered by a painting of the angel's annunciation to the shepherds. Stark and dark, only illuminated by the glory surrounding the angel and the brightness of a distant star illuminating a stable cave. Many of the works had given me tears but this one gave me chills and I had to sit down on a bench in front of it to absorb its beauty and spiritual power. Art museums, amazing places that record life in all it's beauty, cruelty and power.
